TCP settings |
Warning: these settings are just general rules, so you could have a different situation...
Win95 users:
Double click on size="4">Control Panel size="4">:
you should see 2 icons: Network and Modem
By double click on Network, you should see a window containing these values:
- remote access card
- TCP/IP
- Primary access: access to Windows
double click on TCP/IP: you have to set 'get IP address automatically'
By double click on Modem, you should see a window containing:
- modems list
- add/remove/property
- composition property
by clicking on property you can set these values:
- communication port (usually Com2)
- max speed (I suggest you 115200)
- now by clicking on connection you can set:
- 'advanced'
- 'port settings'
by clicking on port settings you can can set 'buffers'...well, these are advanced settings, don't worry about them. But you have to set 'advanced':
- flow control: hardware (RTS/CTS)
- further settings: at&fx4 (but you hav to see your modem's manual)
Double click on color="#FF0000" size="4">Remote access size="4">:
Now you can create a new connection or change an old connection:
- phone number: your ISP's phone number
- modem: your modem's model name
Click on your connection's icon and the click on property:
now click on configure/options and set these values:
- 'show window after connection' (to type your user-id and password)
- 'show modem's state' (to see 'lights' of your modem)
now click on kind of server; you should have something like this:
- ppp:windows 95
- allowed net protocols: TCP/IP (this value must be checked!)
Mac users:
You need: MacPPP and MacTCP programs. You have MacPPP already installed if you have a Performa 'Internet Ready' Macintosh. However if you haven't it, you have to ask to your ISP or you can ask to your friend already connected to the Internet. He can find it on the net at this address: ftp://ftp.support.apple.com/ (name of program: 'MacPPP_2.5.hqx'). If you have a new Mac (with System 7.5 or newer) you have MacTCP, else you can buy it asking to Apple company.
If you have MacPPP, expand it by using 'Stuffit Expander', then:
After restarting, go to Control Panel and then:
double click on ' size="4">ConfigPPP size="4">' icon:
- choose modem's port on menu:
- click on 'config' button and then set these values:
- your ISP's server name
- port speed: 115200
- flow control: CTS & RTS (DTR)
- tone dial: it should be checked, but you could use pulse dial (you should know if you can use tone dial)
- your ISP's phone number
- modem init: AT&Fx4 (Well, you should see your modem's manual...)
- now click on 'authentication' button (however your situation could be different, because you could use a login script, and, in this case, you have to click on 'Connect script' button. In the other case, your ISP provide a direct authentication by PAP protocol) and set these values:
- your User-id
- your password
- click on 'OK' button
- Finally, click on 'Done' button
- Close ConfigPPP
double click on size="4">MacTCP size="4"> icon:
