What's IRC How to get to IRC Main commands
IRC, Internet Relay Chat, is a real-time conversational system. On IRC there are 'virtual rooms' where people discuss named channels: each channel is one conversation. When you join IRC, you have to enter a chatting channel to talk with people inside that channel. More users can talk at the same time in every channel.
Everything you type will instantly be transmitted to other users who are connected to your channel, and, at the same time, everyone can respond to your messages.
You must have a local client to use IRC. On Windows systems you can use 'MIRC' or 'WSIRC'. On Mac systems you can use 'Homer' or 'IRCLE'. On Unix systems you ca use 'IRCII2'. However, clients and servers for IRC are available via anonymous FTP from several sites, notably from cs-ftp.bu.edu.
Help, manuals and clients can be found at: http://www.irchelp.org.
To get help while in IRC, type /help.
Documents and archives of IRC-related mailing lists, are available via anonymous FTP from ftp.kei.com and cs-ftp.bu.edu.
