Now let's see another item contained inside of the Main Menu, 'Security & Privacy': Security & Privacy The above window is helpful to configure ICQ according to your privacy and security necessities. Here you can configure general settings about security, and you can build 3 lists: ignore list, invisible list and visible list. Let's see general settings about security. Here you can: - Allow all user to add you to their contact list (the field 'All users may add me to their contact list' is checked).
- Require you authorization. In this case all users will have to ask you for your authorization to add you to their contact list (the field 'My authorization is required' is checked).
- Allow all users to see your IP address (the field 'Do not allow others to see my IP address' is not checked). If this field is checked, users won't be able to see your IP address.
- Change your password.
- Allow others to view your online presence on the web.
- Configure the security level.
- You can require a password to launch ICQ (the field 'High' is checked).
- You can require a password to change user information only (the field 'Medium' is checked).
- No password is required (the 'Low' field is checked).
Ignore List Here you can restrict more your privacy. In fact you can: - Accept messages only from users on my contact list - well, I suggest you to leave this field unchecked. In fact if you check this field, you won't be able to receive messages from users outside of your contact list. Really sad thing I think. My best friends are once upon a time unknown people who sent me a message saying 'Hi'...
- Do not accept Multi-Recipient Messages from 'All Users' - Good way to avoid spamming. No one will be able to send you multi-recipient messages. However suppose that your friend change email address. What will he do? Almost surely he will send his new address to all his friends. Well, in this case, you won't able to know his new address...
- Do not accept Multi-Recipient Messages from 'Users not on my Contact List' - Good way to avoid spamming. No one will be able to send you multi-recipient messages except users on your contact list.
- Add To Ignore List - press this button to add an user to this list.
Invisible/Visible List Users listed here won't be aware of your presence online until you send them an event (a message for example). However the field 'Allow others to view my online presence on the World Wide Web' must be unchecked, otherwise all users will be able to view your online presence on the web. So if you are say, in 'Invisible' mode or 'Available/Connect' mode, users listed here won't be aware of your presence online. However you could allow some users to view your online presence even when you are in 'Invisible' mode adding them to the 'Visible List'. Now let's see how to configure ICQ. Let's see the 'Preferences' menu. First window: Contact List Here you can: - Change contact list colors

Fields contained into the 'On All Event' frame define ALL events. However you can choose the event to handle by means of the field: 'Select Event to Configure'.
