Tools menu: Options Here you have to specify your POP3 account and your real name. Besides you have to specify the connection method: PPP, SLIP (you have a direct connection to the Internet) or Dialup (if you are connected to the Internet via a Unix shell account for example). Usually you have not a Unix shell account, so you should use PPP or SLIP. Here you have to specify your POP3 account and your real name. If you have a Unix shell account, you have to specify your dialup username. Here you have to specify your SMTP server (if it is different from the POP3 server). In addition you can specify a Ph and/or Finger server (if you want to use the Ph or Finger services). - Check for mail every - specifies how often Eudora has to check the POP server for new mail
- Skip messages over - you can skip messages greater than a specified size
- Send on check - you can send queued messages when Eudora checks the POP server for new messages
- Save password - if this field is checked your password is stored and you have not to type it again
- Leave mail on server - if this field is checked incoming messages are transferred to your PC and left on the server
- Determine first unread message by - you can specify how Eudora has to determine unread messages. I suggest you to check the first field: 'First message not read by this machine'
- Authentication style - you can specify the authentication style: usually you must check the 'Password' field. However your ISP may use the Kerberos authentication service for example (in this case you have to specify the Kerberos server and its settings). Ask to your ISP to know the supported authentication method.
 - SMTP server - you have to specify the SMTP server if it is different from the POP server
- Immediate send - if this field is checked messages are sended immediately. On the contrary, if this field is not checked messages will be put in the Out mailbox and marked as queued ('Q'). So you will decide to send them later
- Send on check - if this field is checked, messages are sended when you check for new incoming messages
- Select a default Stationery for new messages - you can specify a stationery file. To create a stationery file, open a new message, put the text you want into the message body, fill in the headers as appropriate (subject, copies, etc.), and set the toolbar with the options you want. Select Save as... from the File menu to display the Save As dialog. This option is helpful when you send the same message to more than one recipient for example
- Default signature - you can specify a default signature. If you specify a default signature, all outgoing messages will have the specified signature.
Here you can specify the attachment encoding method (MIME/BinHex/Uuencode). Besides you can put attachments in body of message (if this field is not checked, attachments will be put as separate files). You have to specify an attachment directory. Finally you can decide when attachments must be deleted. You can use this window if you have more than one POP3 account. In this case you can have more than one 'personality', so you have to create a new personality for that account, and you have to specify the corresponding information (POP account, Default domain, SMTP server and so on). The main personality (your default account) is named: 'Dominant'. You have to use this window if you have an Unix shell account to connect to the Internet. In this case you have to define your userid (Dialup username), the phone number and other information about your modem. Besides you have to write a couple of scripts (you could change the existing script 'serial.mod' and 'serial.nav'). |
