Two images are clearer than a millions of words. So look here:
On the first image curves are broken off. While on the same (but antialiased) image curves are perfectly smooth. An antialiased GIF has not sharp edges, but there are some pixel with different colors. For example, the antialiased black and white GIF above, contains several many shade of gray (24). Look at the zoomed portion of GIF:
You can build aliased GIF manually (but it's a very boring job) or automatically (by means of the antialias turned on in the text tool of your favorite graphics program). |
