Windows XP keeps history of recently opened documents so anyone is able to see last used files by simply clicking on the Start button. If you don't like so, just follows these easy steps:
1) Click on Start -> Run, type 'regedit' then press Enter
2) Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> Software -> Microsoft -> Windows -> CurrentVersion -> Policies -> Explorer
3) Create a new DWORD value and name it 'NoRecentDocsHistory' (do not change small letters and capital letters)
4) Double click the new NoRecentDocsHistory item
5) Type '1' (without quotes) in the showing box
That's all! To go back, type '0' instead of '1' or delete the NoRecentDocsHistory item.
WARNING: the Windows' registry is the heart of Windows: you will be in *TROUBLE* if you damage it! Your computer could be temporarily unavailable! So, before editing it, please make sure you have a backup copy of it. Refer to this article: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/322756/en-us to know more about the Windows' registry backup procedure
