How to Convert a FAT Partition to NTFS (Windows XP)

09/03/2006 - 18:10 (Category: Windows)

NTFS file system is better than the old FAT filesystem. Windows 98 uses the old FAT filesystem whereas Windows XP uses the new NTFS filesystem. What if you want to upgrade a FAT partition to the new filesystem?

1) go to Start -> Run
2) type Convert C: /FS:NTFS (where 'C' is the partition drive letter to convert to)

WARNING: make sure to get a backup copy of all data in that partition before proceeding.
