Did you know that? A desktop overwhelmed by icons makes the Finder slower on start up. The same problem afflicts Windows systems. To fix it, just put a new folder on your desktop. Name it 'mydesktop' or anything you prefer. Remove all superfluous icons from your desktop and place them inside of the new folder. Furtermore, you can change the Safari's default download location (the default location is precisely the desktop) to your new folder. Run Safari, go to 'Preferences' and choose a new download location (instead of the default desktop folder).
