Mac Os X: get more free space removing languages from your hard disk

18/11/2005 - 21:18 (Category: Mac Os X)

You can gain more free space by removing unused languages from your hard disk:

several Mac Os X programs let you work in a number of languages. You can choose english, spanish, french and so on. These languages take up a lot of space. For example, iPhoto contains about 60 Mb of languages built-in. The hint is: remove all languages with the exception of yours.

1) Choose any application which 'has to slim'
2) Option-Drag the application to any location you like (in order to create a backup copy of the application in case anything goes wrong)
3) Control-Click on that program's icon
4) Select 'Show Package Content'
5) Go to Contents -> Resources
6) Remove '.lproj' folders related to languages you don't speak (e.g. 'Dutch.lproj' or 'Japanese.lproj' folders)

You are done. Now double click the application: in case it doesn't run, you can restore the application from the location where you saved it before (step 2).
