Keep your desktop tidy on a regular basis. This is important for a fast start and shutdown of the Windows system.
Right-click the desktop and choose Properties, Desktop, Customize Desktop, and Run Desktop Cleanup.
Check the desktop icons that you want to archive.
Notice that you are archiving links not programs, so your programs are always available into your original folders.
Now all icons are stored into a new folder created on the Desktop and named idle desktop links.
Later on you can delete or modify the folder content.
